All-District Honors Band Auditions 2022: January 8th7th and 8th grade students [and select 6th graders] are highly encouraged to participate in the CDBA District Honors Band auditions. There is a rigorous audition process to be selected for All-District. The three components to the audition are scales [memorized], a prepared solo and sight reading. The same audition materials will be used for All-County, All-District and All-State. District auditions will be held January 8th, 2022 . Those chosen to attend will perform in an ensemble of the best musicians in the district and conducted by highly recognized clinician [composer, college band director, etc] on January 28th & 29th. If a student makes one of the top positions in the All-District Honors Band they will be given the opportunity to audition for the North Carolina All-State Honors Band [March 5th, 2022].

All-District & All-State Honors Band Solo List
You can never start too early on preparing your solo. You will need to prepare the entire solo, but the judges will only have you play a portion of the solo. Be sure to pay attention to which parts to play and which parts to omit when they are posted. All Honors Band materials will need to be heard by the Band Director prior to be allowed to audition [around December]. How will my Audition be Assessed? Each student will be assessed in the THREE separate categories: scales, solo and sight-reading [see the rubrics below]. In order to score well, it is important that the scales and solo be extremely well prepared.
TIP: In order to practice sight-reading, play music you have not played before and try to play it correctly the first time. Before you sight-read the music, take 30 seconds to look over the music: key signature/accidentals, tempo, style/articulation, dynamics, the road map [repeats, etc]. Once you have looked over the previous components, be sure to find the most difficult part of the music and finger through it. Don't waste your time staring at whole notes!
